Conversational phrases in Spanish

If you are hanging out around Spanish people, your Spanish family in law is over for the weekend or you want your Spanish to sound very native, these are great phrases to achieve that.

Exclamations

  • ¡Anda! - Oh! -expresses surprise:

Ex: ¡Anda! Ya estás aquí - Oh, you're already here!

¡Anda! Yo también tengo ese bolso! - Oh, I also have that handbag!

  • ¡Qué + adjective/adverb! - it's so.. - admires or focus a quality or circunstance

Ex:
¡Qué bonito! - It's so beautiful!
¡Qué tarde! - It's so late!
¡Qué guapa estás! - You look so pretty! ¡Qué rico! - it's so delicious/tasty!

  • ¡Qué + noun! - what a ...! - expresses surprise

¡Qué sopresa! -What a surprise!
¡Qué buena idea! - What a good idea!

Good wishes

  • ¡Ten un buen día! - Have a good day
    Use tened instead if you talk to more than one person.

  • ¡Buen viaje! - have a good trip!

  • ¡Qué aproveche! - Bon appetite!

  • ¡Disfruta ...! - Enjoy ..!
    Use disfrutad instead if you talk to more then one person.

  • Igualmente - you too!

Catching up

  • ¡Cuánto tiempo! – no time no see!/it's been so long!

  • ¿Qué tal? / ¿Cómo estás? - How are you?

  • ¿Cómo va todo? - How is everything (going)?

  • ¿Algo nuevo? - Anything new?

  • Como siempre - like always

  • Bien, muy bien, genial, fenomenal, estupendo - good, very good, great, fenomenal, great.

  • Regular, no muy bien, mal, fatal - More or less, not very well, bad, awful.

Sharing

  • Me gusta... - I like...

  • A mí también - Me too (opinion)

  • No me gusta... -I don't like...

  • A mí tampoco - Me neither (opinion)

  • Yo también - I also do /me too (actions)

  • Yo tampoco - I don't either (actions)

Ex:
Corro todas las mañanas - I run every morning ¿Sí? Yo también - Yeah? Me too/I also ..

Nunca bebo vino -I never drink wine Yo tampoco - I don't either

  • ,verdad? / ,no? - right?

Ex: Este queso es muy bueno, verdad? - This cheese is very good, right?

Ya tienes veinte años, no? - You're already 20 years old, right?
